Juniors Move on to Provincials in Thrilling 11-9 Win
The South Hastings Juniors are EOSBA Champions as they defeated the Whitby Canadiens 11-9 in a tie breaker elimination game on Aug, 24. The Juniors put themselves in a tough spot playing from behind for most of the game but never gave up and battled back from an 8-1 deficit in the 4th inning to a thrilling 11-9 win.
The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first inning but some costly errors by the Juniors saw them down 4-1 after the 2nd. Whitby put another 4 runs on the board in the 3rd inning but the Juniors started to claw their way back answering with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half. The Jrs put another 2 on the board in the 4th inning to close the gap to within 2. The Canadiens got another run in the top of the 5 th but the Jrs kept pushing and tied the game at 9 in the bottom half. The Juniors took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning after a 3 up 3 down top half and secured the win as they shut Whitby down in the 7th.
Weston Harrison got the W, coming on in relief of Lincoln Kinlin in the 5th inning, to pitch 3 innings allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and throwing only 21 pitches. Kinlin pitched 4 innings throwing 81 pitches with 2 strikeouts and only 3 walks.
On offense the bats came alive through the whole order with multiple hits going to Kinlin (2 singles), Wyatt Colton (double and single), Isaac Vos (2 singles), and Carter Colebourne (2 singles). Other singles went to Harrison, Sean Farrell, Logan Leroux, Cole Mitchell, Blake Sills and Eli Humphrey.

Juniors Split Series against Whitby
The Juniors took to the field on Aug.15 as they met the Whitby Canadiens in series 2 of the EOBA Select Playdowns. The Jrs were looking for another 2 wins to secure their spot at Provincials on Labour Day weekend. It was a tight battle back and forth with the Jrs coming out with a split.
In Game 1, the Juniors took an early 2-1 lead after the 1st inning but Whitby battled back scoring 4 runs in the 2nd and the Jrs found themselves trailing 5-3 after 2. After a scoreless couple innings the Canadiens got back on the board scoring another 4 runs in the 5th but the Jrs answered right back in the bottom half with 4 runs of their own. Whitby scored another run in the top of the 6th to take a 10-7 lead but the Juniors did not quit and pushed right back scoring 4 in the bottom half to walk off with a thrilling 11-10 win. Cole Mitchell pitched 2 innings with Blake Sills coming on in relief pitching 4 innings with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Sean Farrell led the offense with 2 RBIs hitting a double and single. Sills chipped in on offense as well hitting a triple and single. Other hits went to Logan Leroux (2 singles), Dom Murphy (2 singles), Wyatt Colton (single), Mitchell (single), Isaac Vos (single), Weston Harrison (single), and Lincoln Kinlin (single).
In Game 2 under the lights, the Juniors came out flat and Whitby scored 4 runs in the 1st inning to take an early 4-0 lead. The Jrs battled back in the 2nd scoring 4 of their own to tie the game 4-4. Whitby pushed ahead in the 3rd with another 4 runs to go up 8-4. Whitby put another 2 on the board in the 4th inning to take a 10-4 lead. The Jrs tried to make a come back in the 5th inning scoring 3 runs but it was all they would get as Whitby went on to a 10-7 win. Isaac Vos (3 innings) and Eli Humphrey (2 innings) shared the pitching duties for the Juniors. Wyatt Colton led the Jrs bats with 2 singles. Juniors begin Play Downs with 2 big Wins
The EOBA Select Playdowns began on Aug.9 for the Juniors as they met the Clarington Orioles in series 1 of 2. The Jrs were looking for 2 big wins in their bid to head to the Provincials on Labour Day weekend and they didn't disappoint.
In Game 1, Carter Colebourne pitched 41/3 innings of shutout baseball with 8 strikeouts as the Jrs cruised to a 12-0 win. Colebourne also chipped in on offense with a double and single. Other hits went to Sean Farrell (single), Wyatt Colton (2 singles), Cole Mitchell (double and single), Weston Harrison (2 singles), Isaac Vos (double) and Dom Murphy (single).
In Game 2, the Juniors offense proved to be too much for the Orioles scoring early and never looking back on route to a 19-1 win. Wyatt Colton pitched a complete game only allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 5 strikeouts. Leading at the way offensively for the Jrs was Cole Mitchell with 4 RBIs hitting a double and 2 singles. Colton chipped in at the plate with 2 RBIs on 2 singles.

Congratulations to Isaac Vos of the South Hastings Jrs who won the Homerun derby at the Cobourg Summer Slugfest tournament July 4-6. Solid showing for Juniors at Cobourg Rep Tournament
The South Hastings Juniors turned heads over the weekend of July 4-6 as they participated in the 13U A and below Cobourg Summer Slugfest tournament. Taking on a higher level of baseball the Jrs slugged their way to the semi finals going 3-0 in round robin play and outscoring their opponents 48-16.
The Jrs came out strong on Friday defeating Ajax 19-6 in their 1st round robin game. Cole Mitchell, Blake Sills, Carter Colebourne and Lincoln Kinlin all shared pitching duties in the win. Sills and Mitchell led the bats with 2 doubles and 2 singles each. Other hits went to Sean Farrell (double, 2 singles), Wyatt Colton (double & single), Dom Murphy ( 2 singles), Isaac Vos (2 singles), Kinlin (2 singles), Weston Harrison (double), Logan Leroux (single) and Colebourne (triple & single). Sills took home the Player of the Game nods.
Saturday saw the Jrs up against the Pickering Red Sox. Cole Mitchell pitched a strong 3 2/3 innings in a 14-4 win. Isaac Vos and Lincoln Kinlin came on in relief. The bats were on fire again with Wyatt Colton and Vos leading the way, both hitting a double and 2 singles. Other hits went to Mitchell (triple), Dom Murphy (double & single), and Logan Leroux (single). Cole Mitchell took home Player of the Game honours.
The final round robin game saw the Jrs going for a 3-0 record to seal a spot in the semi finals on Sunday. They first had to get by the Kawartha Cubs. The Jrs came out strong in the 1st inning scoring 5 runs on singles from Colton, Mitchell and Kinlin. The Jrs fell behind 6-5 in the 3rd but broke it wide open scoring 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning with big hits from Mitchell (triple), Colebourne (triple) and Vos (double). Colton shut the door pitching 2 2/3 innings in relief with 6 strikeouts as the Jrs went on to win 15-6 and secured their spot in the semi final.
In semi final action on Sunday the Jrs faced off against a tough Northumberland Jacks team. Jrs were down 2-0 after the 1st inning but didn't let it faze them and battled back to go up 4-2 after 3 innings. It was a back and forth battle with the score tied 6-6 after 7 innings, needing extras to decide it. The Jacks scored a run in the top of the 8th and the Jrs countered with one of their own in the bottom half to force another inning. The Jacks got another run in the 9th and the Jrs pressed hard but couldn't pull through in the bottom half for a heart breaking but thrilling 8-7 loss. Both teams are to be commended for such a hard fought, entertaining battle of back and forth baseball. The Jrs never gave up, pushing hard right until the last out.

Juniors Out Score Peterborough 27-2 in Double Header Action
The South Hastings Juniors took to the field on Saturday, June 14 for a double header against the Peterborough Tigers at Alemite field in Belleville.
First game of the double header saw the Jrs mercy the Tigers 12-2 in 5 innings. Lincoln Kinlin took the W pitching 4 innings allowing only 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 4. Eli Humphrey came in to finish off pitching 1 inning allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 strikeout. The Jrs bats were lead by Kinlin, Sean Farrell and Weston Harrison who each had a double. Singles went to Blake Sills, Wyatt Colton and Dom Murphy.
The bats were hot in the 2nd game for the Jrs as they shut out the Tigers scoring 15 runs on 15 hits over 4 innings of play with a final score of 15-0. Sills lead the bats with a triple and 2 singles. Murphy also had a triple. Other hits went to Colton (2 doubles), Humphrey (2 singles), Isaac Vos (double & single), Logan Leroux (2 singles), Cole Mitchell (double & single) and Harrison with a single. Vos and Humphrey combined in the shutout win pitching 2 innings a piece.

Juniors win 13U Northumberland Jacks Dedicated Select Tournament
The 13U South Hastings Juniors played in their 1st tournament of the season on May 30-June 1 in Cobourg. They went undefeated in round robin play, outscoring their opponents 47-16, earning them a bye straight to the finals on Sunday.
First round robin game on Friday night saw the Jrs go up against the Clarington Orioles. Blake Sills, Dom Murphy, and Carter Colebourne combined pitching for the win with a final score of 14-1. Leading the offence was Colebourne with a triple. Sills, Cole Mitchell and Isaac Vos had doubles, with singles going to Sean Farrell, Weston Harrison, Logan Leroux and Eli Humphrey.
Player of the Game honours went to Carter Colebourne.
Saturday morning the Jrs matched up against North York coming out on top 20-10. Bats were hot with Sills leading the team with 2 singles and a double. Wyatt Colton had a double and single while Murphy and Colebourne also had a double a piece. Singles went to Farrell, Mitchell, and Vos. Lincoln Kinlin took home Player of the Game pitching 3 innings and allowing only 2 runs. Humphrey and Colton also pitched an inning a piece.
Final round robin game saw the Jrs against the TNT Thunder with the Jrs securing their spot in the final with a 12-6 victory. Mitchell, Farrell and Murphy pitched for the win. Mitchell led the bats with 2 singles while Vos had a double. Other singles went to Sills, Harrison, Colebourne, Kinlin, and Leroux. Player of the Game went to Sean Farrell who pitched 2 2/3 innings with 3 strikeouts.
The Championship game on Sunday had the Jrs in a rematch against the TNT Thunder. The Jrs came out strong and focused scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning and 2 more in the 2nd. They never looked back scoring 4 more in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th. The bats were hot and consistent with singles going to Sills (2), Farrell, Murphy, Colebourne (2), and Leroux. Strong base running and patience at the plate helped the offence take control of the game. They cruised to a 12-1 Championship win on the back of a fantastic pitching performance from Isaac Vos, who pitched a complete game allowing only 1 run on 4 hits with 11 strikeouts.
Vos was named Player of the Game.
Next up: The Juniors head down the 401 to Kingston this weekend (June 6-8) to compete in the Kingston Thunder Rep Tournament at Woodbine Park.
